Thumb and Description for Image 1:
Here are a few pics showing the stepper motor hook up to our homebuilt XYZ table. Theses Steppers are taken from old Floppy drives. The torque is not very high, but sufficient to position the tool when not under load.

This is the stepper controller board I built. It hooks to the serial port of the PC and uses a 18F series PIC from Microchip. The stepper controller ICs are L293D at the moment. The PC power supply in the back is used for circuit power (5Volts) and the 12 Volts to drive the steppers.

This is the other axis that currently has stepper control. Now only the vertical (Z) axis stepper control is missing.
